I would suggest not to buy make the cut at all
    it is basically abandoned software
and you may not get the registration key anyway
It does not work with MAC
I would suggest Sure Cut a Lot it it support you KNK Maxx cutter and it current support by it developer

@Chado100 - another vote for do not buy Make The Cut! Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) is still be supported and developed by the developers, while Make The Cut! is abandoned. The pricing is actually better than the advertised price. There are great support groups through Facebook as well. If you like using a User Manual, there is one of those as well.

Also MTC does not work on a Mac if its got the latest OS. All Mac OS are not 64 bit, MTC is a 32 bit only program so it won't work.
Still using MTC but slowly migrating to SCAL. KNK cutters including the Force and Maxx Air continue to be my favourites. Fluent in other cutter languages.

    @Liz_A, do you see a Mac driver for a KNK there? I don't.  :(

@Chado100, you SHOULD be able to get the following driver to work on your Mac.  Please use the following instructions:

    (1) Unplug your USB cable if you have it plugged into your computer.
    (2) Go to this link, scroll down to the table

    (3) On the row with the newer Mac O/S listed, click on 2.4.4.  Download and run that file.
    (4) After running that file, reboot your computer and wait for your Mac to fully come back up.
    (5) Then connect the USB cable to your computer, turn on the cutter, and wait like 15 seconds or so.
    (6) Open SCAL, go to the Cut Settings window, click on the refresh icon (to the left of Test Connection).
    (7) Click on Test Connection and the cutter head should do a small jog back and forth.

Where did you get your KNK Maxx? Did you Buy it used from someone? I ask because the KNK Maxx cutters were I thought, no longer available new. I also ask because if it is used, there might be more at play with your issues. You also don’t indicate that you have done exactly the 7 steps @SandyMcC outlined above. Sandy was THE person who wrote the manuals for SCAL and the KNK cutters and provided years of support so she is the person who knows how to help you but you have to follow what she is asking and report back so she can help you troubleshoot. She is in AZ in USA so depending on where you are, there may be significant time differences so you would need to be patient.

Somehow I missed the fact you have Windows available. It's MUCH easier to get an older cutter, like the Maxx, working with Windows.  Using similar (but NOT identical), try the following, step by step. And yes, you can use a printer USB cable just in case that might be the issue:

    (1) Unplug your USB cable if you have it plugged into your computer.

    (2) Go to this link, scroll down to the table

    (3) On the far right side you'll see "setup executable"... click on that link, download, extract, and run it.

    (4) After running that file, reboot Windows and wait for Windows to fully come back up.

    (8) If you still get no response, right click on the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.  Look for a Ports folder and report back what it shows inside. If there is no Ports folder, look for any listing of an Unknown Device in the Device Manager menu and report that.

Would also be beneficial to know what OS you are running on your computer(s) you are trying to use. For example, if older windows version, there was one (seems like 7 maybe 🤔) that was notorious for blocking the download and install of drivers. If newest on Mac, you definitely could no longer run MTC because MAC no longer supports 32 bit programs. So even little details like that matter in trying to help you.

It appears that the USB port on the Maxx may not be functional.  But it does appear that something is connected via Bluetooth. Is your Maxx a Maxx Air model?  The original Maxx doesn't have Bluetooth capability. And, if this is a Maxx Air model you MUST have Maxx Air selected in SCAL if any connectivity is to be successful.

In other words, IF this is a Maxx model, then this is what you would want set. If you're not sure if you have a Maxx or a Maxx Air, then on the control panel, press the menu button repeatedly and count how many screens you see. PLEASE do not change any settings as you progress through those screens... not yet. For now, just count them.  The original Maxx has only like 3, I believe. The Maxx has like 6 or 7.

It only says KNK MAXX and the machine is black in colour.
I have tried both with both computers.
Anyway i spoke to the person i bought it off and i will take it back.
I have gone and bought a Cricut Maker and its going great guns and easy to use and set up.
Thank you for all your help guys.

The color and the vinyl sticker do not mean anything. That's why I didn't ask for that. I needed an actual "test" that would indicate one way or the other if it was a Maxx or a Maxx Air.
