Just thought i would share my glitter ornaments with the clear boxes i purchased. i love the way they turned out. and my customers have been very happy with them!! thanks for lookin!
They are really lovely. I was going to do a metallic sliver vinyl background with the names in white but I love how you matched the names to the colours and added a white background. I am glad I am only doing family ones and grandchildren's friends and teachers. I am thinking maybe only the teachers and the candy cane mice for school friends. In Australia the school year ends in December so it is goodbye to your teachers and some friends.
I really love these ornaments, and I have watched the video on how to do them but being the newbie that I am, how are you doing the lettering? How do you get the white trim on the letters, are you just cutting the black out then cutting the top letters?
They are lovely, I have only managed to find clear plastic baubles, so not quite a nice as glass ones, but have been doing them this afternoon and am absolutley covered in glitter, one of the trials of crafting is the clean up afterwards lol !! I have designed all the names in MTC, complete with shadow and registration markers for the layering, but think will leave that until tomorrow so as to give them time to dry out completely before assembling. Love the bow idea, so hope you dont mind if I borrow it. Havn't started on the boxes yet, but at least did buy some double sided papers today with them in mind, so part the way there!
I am guessing the clear boxes are from a florist shop, they look like corsage boxes but just a guess. They really do make the ornaments look awesome. I am going to try my ornaments this next week. I have to get some Future floor wax first but I am excited to get started. I got all my glitter and glass balls at Michaels yesterday, all 1/2 price - even better.
OK I just watched the video and am inspired. I have done ornaments with paints before, swirling two or three different paints in a bulb but these are awesome. Thanks for the inspiration!
I am working on my ornaments and all is well except, what is the trick of getting the white shadow letters and the color letters perfectly lined up??? HELP I would really like to get these started and my test one....well let's just say doesn't look as nice as yours caseymeganmarie.
I haven't done these, but I would think that if you layer the shadow and the name on a flat surface, before you try to put it on the ornament, it would be easier than trying to line them up on the ornament.
Rem, Use the clear vinyl transfer tape. Then you can see to line up the names. So pick up the top name with the tape and stick it to the bottom shape. Then pick up both with the tape and put on your ornament. I can't help you with the lettering in MTC yet. I can only tell you how to do it in Inkscape, sorry.
I figured it out and so far so good. THanks for your suggestions. I love these ornaments they are just so pretty and like someone else already mentioned, they are addicting.
Make a layer with just a small square in each corner and then close the eye of the layer you aren't cutting, just the squares and the layer you want, then do the same with the next layer. You can then line up the squares (registration marks) to have an exact placement. HTH
I forgot to add that those ornament are gorgeous and love the layering of the vinyl. Thanks so much for showing your work as you have massively inspired me.
They are beautiful, aren't they, Taigen. I have not done the vinyl yet, just made some of the ornaments and they are beautiful just glittered up!
Canada, I seem to remember that there is a postage problem with Canada (shipping charges and maybe customs). There are several people on here from Canada that may be able to help you to find suppliers in Canada.
Another thing you can do is call a sign shop and tell them you are a crafter and ask for scraps. Tell them you'll take anything that is bigger than say 1 inch by 2 inches. They will probably be happy to have you pick some up.
I use the vinyl that is equivalent to oracal 651, it is permanent and should be durable for 5 years outside.
I finally have my ornaments almost done, I just need to get the bows done. Mine are all red and white because that is the color theme of my tree and I have all 10 grandkids names going on the tree. Thanks again for such a great and fun idea.
I am putting my kids on my tree and their kids. I will be a while longer and I am very glad I have 3 trees. Your red ones are very pretty. For 40 years the only colours allowed on my trees have been red and gold. My kids always tease me about it. Huh, this year I have a pink and blue tree and silver, white and black tree. They will all think they are at the wrong house.
These ornaments are so beautiful. I am going to the store to pick up some Pledge/Future in just a bit. My real dilemma is what type of glitter did you use for the ornaments?
i sure the martha stewart FINE GLITTER. it can be any brand as long as its fine glitter. just started stocking up on ornaments for this year. last year i did about $500 worth of ornaments
I just wanted to add, glass blocks are quite beautiful with the pledge/glitter too. Serves a couple of purposes, hides the wires from the mini lights and pretty background for vinyl. Make sure you let the glitter dry for a couple of days before putting string lights inside block. The lights can scratch the glitter off inside.

ive never done block but i would love too, my only concern is that lights would make the glitter get to hot or something, have you ever had any problems with yours?
No, @caseymegnmarie I made only one last year for my sister. Glitter is still intact and the lights have not done anything to the glitter....of course I don't know how long she has left it lighted at any given time. You could also use the single light in the blocks if this might be a concern. Next time I talk to my sister, I will ask how long she has ever had it lit.

When using the vinyl for personalization, would you need to warp the logo or name? or will they go on pretty well without any problems? Also could these be done with plastic clear ornaments with the same result? Maybe I'll just try and see.

I charged $4 each or 3/$10. most ppl bought the 3/$10. Yes you can do the plastic ornaments too! and as far as putting the vinyl on the ornaments, i found that if i kept the name less then 3 inches they usually went on pretty easy, now if i had a name that had two tall letter next to each other, i had to put a small slit in the shadowed layer to get it to lay flat (does that make sence?) i would apply most of the name, then cut a slit with my knife, then pressed down the rest of the sticker. hope i explained that ok.
I would almost bet we could figure out a way with the new warp to so that the names are always straight.
Oh no, I see a new Christmas craze starting early. I wonder if it does if Andy or Byran can come up with a way to show us how to deal with the sphere?? We should add this to the webinar list of ?'s
Ok I think in the video I watched they were using Future mop cleaner, does anyone use any other brand? I'm having trouble finding that one. And thanks for the tips Caseymeganmarie!

When I did these last year, I was very happy with the Poly*Flake glitter from Hobby Lobby, $2.99 for a 21g bottle.
I also picked up some Martha Stewart glitters at the Wilton Tent Sale this June, that I think are super fine. They did a gorgeous job in the ornaments when we tested them a couple months ago. Scroll to the bottom, you can see Nelda and Kathy's ornaments with the MS super fine. http://forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/17809/fun-and-productive-escape#Item_23
I believe I found my Pledge Future at Jewel/Osco grocery. Our Walmart has it, too.
So pledge or floor cleaner and super fine glitter then? These do look pretty sharp. I'm thinking about doing these for friends. Do the plastic or glass ones do better?
Not floor cleaner - The Pledge Future is a "floor finish" according to the bottle. Think old fashioned wax. But this particular brand dries fast, and clear. It seems to me, that in an older discussion, someone mentioned using a different brand and it didn't work as well. But I may be mistaken about that.
I have only done the glass ones, so I can't speak for the plastic.

I think I may try to do these for my associates at work, instead of the glass jar etching.
Thanks

So sorry for being rude

There are several suppliers in the States if you want some names. I use uscutters at http://www.uscutter.com/Intermediate-Calendered_c_636.html, and some use H&H http://www.hhsignsupply.com/productcart/pc/home.asp and there is Sign Warehouse http://www.signwarehouse.com/c-vinyl-supplies.html I really like the "store brand" of vinyl at uscutters, GreenSatr. It cuts well and has been very durable for my purposes.
