Does the ZING have a circuit breaker or fuse?

Does the ZING have a circuit breaker or fuse?

I booted an older ZING and set up a simple file to cut. When I clicked “cut,” the blade ran in the up position across to the kill switch on the left. I cut it off immediately wanting to keep it from cutting into the vinyl.  When I tried to cut it back on, it won’t come on?  Does it have a reset switch or something?

is the a little light illuminated on the power supply block ?

check the limit switch is no jammed in (though i cannot recall if that prevents power on)

how did you cut the power ? power button -possibly in you may have push a bit hard and broken or jammed it
what happens when you attempt to power on

Yes, the power block light is on. I'm afraid I don't know what the "limit switch" is. I cut the power by pushing the power button. When I push it now, it goes up and down as usual but no light comes on?

The limit switch is what was hit on the left - a red button under the top, on the top on the left side. It kills the power to the blade assembly so it doesn't keep trying to move to the left (or right if that is the direction it was going). Check that the button has come back out, it could be stuck in the off position.

Thanks, Liz, I was aware of the switch just didn't know what it was called.
It's in good working order but that wouldn't affect the power on and off would it, just stops the blade, right?
  • SandyMcCSandyMcC Member Posts: 7,871
Correct. The limit switch only affects the cutting head behavior, unrelated to whether or not the power is on or off.  There is no fuse. I assume the power button still seems to be operable? I broke mine once and had to replace it but I could tell it was broken. It was loose and kind of recessed into that opening in the end cap.  You can open up the Zing and look at it to see if anything appears broken. I will send a message to Chad at Plotter Geeks and see what he says.

I reached Chad and he said:

Next step would be to remove the right end cap and check to make sure the connector is... connected

After that would be the bottom cover to make sure the lead is connected to the mainboard

I believe I have a bunch of the button PCBs so that would be last step.

Good luck and, as always, let me know if you have more questions or decide you need to order a replacement button. I can help coordinate that.

Sandy, I'm guessing it's the chip? The switch seems to be working fine. The button doesn't look like it moves the circuit switch very much but it moves it. I powered it up and used a plastic bar to push the circuit switch and it clicked but nothing happens. Looks like the little circuit is hot glued in place.

Different issue, but since I have your attention. I'm going to try to use MTC and one of my Zings for vinyl and The Orbit and SCAl for PNC. So I've downloaded the Mac version of MTC. I'm running Parallels so I can boot as Mojave or Maverick. It won't run in Mojave so I'm using the maverick. I had it working but really slow so, I rebooted. Now when I try to import an Illustrator file it tells me " A file name cannot contain any of the following characters /:<>I....?

I don't know enough about the Mac version of MTC other than it's bundled with Wine...hopefully someone else can give some clarity!

I'm assuming the file name does include any of those characters ?   /:<>I

As it would seem you have several zing machines it might be $50 well spent to purchase Scal as it is a true Mac version
and then not the hassle of old mac os's and window emulation etc

That's the odd part, none of the file names have any of these characters? I have SCAL, The problem is I switch between machines and PNC vs straight vinyl constantly all day. Changing the settings in SCAL every time really slows me down and problematic for mistakes.

Regarding these various questions and issues:  (1) If you have Parellels installed, why are you running the Mac version of MTC?

    (2) Regarding SCAL and settings, make them what you want and then click on the little + button to the right of Custom Cut Preset.  Enter something simple like the letter A or whatever. You don't have to set up some elaborate preset name.  NOW, the preset should stay in place and you won't have to keep reentering the Force and Speed settings.  I DO need to get this one reported however, it came about after the developer fixed a different settings issue that someone had been whining about for a long time.  So, I AM a bit nervous about what will break as a result of this one getting fixed. lol

    (3) Regarding your power button, Chad said this:

For the button, everything appears to be correct. The last thing for them to check would be the connection to the mainboard. That's a bit of a shot in the dark, but worth checking, regardless. If that's working, we'd need to try replacing the switch. It's a bit of a pain, as I'm sure you're aware of, but can be done by the customer if they want. Otherwise, we could do an RMA. Cost would be about $70 + shipping both ways.

Morning, Excellent solution "Custom Presets" never occurred to me. You always make this stuff seem so simple.
I decided last night to give up on MTC. I tried this morning to install two copies of SCAL. I think that might work since each copy is installed on a separate system. "Custom Prests is a MUCH better option.

Considering what transpired when it quit working think it's the switch. When the blade started crossing the field I rapidly hammered the switch pretty hard trying to get it to stop. It looks like the switch circuit should just slide out after softening the hot glue? Where do I get a new switch circuit?

On Parallels, I use it to run Maverick, an older Mac OS at the same time running Mojave on the main volume.  Several programs I use, most importantly the Adobe suite, don't operate effectively in Mojave. The Adobe suite now is only rentable and costs $600 a year. I don't need to do anything my older software can't do and Parallels is roughly $60 a year. Just seemed like the best solution, a little cumbersome but not worth the $600 a year to upgrade.

Oh, I get it now. Whenever I see "Parallels", I immediately think of Mac on one side, Windows on the other. Not two different Mac O/S's.

I can get a quote for the new switch/button. Please send me your full shipping address here privately and I can get a quote, including USPS shipping.

Yeah, Parallels is usually PC-Mac but I didn't see why it couldn't be two versions of Mac OS. If I respond to this will it be private?

lwebb . . .  If I respond to this will it be private?
No, if you respond here, anyone and everyone who visits the forum can see it. If you want to send Sandy a private message, you have two options to do so. If you will click on Sandy’s user name on any of her posts above, it should take you to her profile page on the forum. On that page, you will find an email address for her that you can use to send her an email outside of the forum. One note on this, not everyone who participates(Ed) on the forum here provided for their email to be shown/used. In this instance, Sandy does.

The second option is You can also send her a “private message” or commonly called a “PM” via the forum from that same page. If you look over towards the top right area, just below the search box with “Go” next to it in the gray box area, you should see a button that says “message” if you click on that, it will take you to another window to send a “PM” to her.
    Go Vols!
