Evenly placing designs---there has to be an easier way. [Resolved]

I want to cut 100 circles, evenly spaced on a custom mat. The end goal is the negative space. I would like to have each row have the circles staggered half way between the row above and below it.

I've never tried to do this before, but I guess I thought it would be easy with space and align tool. Um, not so much.

Am I missing something? Or do I just need to do it by placing each circle manually?

Thanks.

Hey Lynne, how many circles do you want on each row across? How many total rows down do you want?

    how big is your mat?

I would start to approach this by first doing the first row using the duplicate function.  Create one circle and then "duplicate" and add the spacing desired.  Then join that row together and then copy that row and place it where you want it as the 2nd row.  Then you can copy those two rows and duplicate as desired.

If you don't understand what I am trying to explain - let me know the answers to the questions above and I will have a try to "show" you what I am talking about.

Just what I was looking for, Melanie! (@meflick) ! You know, I don't think I've ever used Duplicate before. Either that, or it was so long ago I've forgotten. :-P

    Thanks so much! Done!
