Cut accuracy falling off... [Resolved]

Let me start off by saying that I'm a newbie, so if this is a really dumb thing I'm doing, forgive me. :)

I've prepared some small sticker files in Photoshop to use in my planner. I want to print them via Photoshop because MTC's color management is horrible. If I print in photoshop, they look amazing. If I print through MTC, the colors are wonky.

So... I've printed the files through photoshop and then imported them into MTC for cutting.

Even though the cuts are all lined up and perfect on my MTC screen, the accuracy falls off during the actual cut. The top of the page is cut perfectly and then by the time it cuts the bottom, the alignment is way off. On my screen the alignment is spot on in the entire screen.

What can I do to fix this?

TIA!! <3

@Heartwork - I would guess that you are using a colour management scheme in PS while creating the filesand that translates to your printer when you print in PS, however, MTC does not load nor use colour management schemes other than what the printer is using by default, hence discrepancies you may see between the two. So a couple of questions, MAC or PC?

How are you cutting frm MTC, WYSIWYG or Print and Cut? What is your cutter? So that is 3 questions for now :)

You ar correct, I'm a photographer so color management is a thing for me. ;)

So the files are being printed directly from photoshop, I set it for borderless printing but have 1 inch margins in Ps.

I then import that same file into MTC via a PNG and pixel trace. I make sure that my image alignment is the same as it was in Ps when I printed. (the top right corner of the image is at the 1 inch x 1inch mark.

I then cut it out via WYSIWYG and set my origin point at the corner of my mat.

I'm cutting with a KNK zing.

    I'm computing on a Mac. ;)

    Thanks for the help!

I fear this may be part of my problem, though I have no idea how to resolve it.

Here is the exact same file, one printed through Ps and one printed through MTC. Notice how the "cornmaze" part is almost identically lined up, but as you move out and down, it gets further and further off? The "s'more" portion is really off. (I added a thin black border to simulate where the cuts are and the line shows the fall off.)

@Heartwork you might be interested in this post from the forum I added below since you are using a mac. Liz is more of an expert in this but you might have better luck lining up outputs if you used pnc rather than wiziwig. http://forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/42470/print-and-cut-colour-to-a-mac#latest. I fond that pdf printer lite app on the apple store works as well and is free for printing to pdf on a mac since MTC wine version doesn't let you access your native pdf printer.

Your application is not a WYSIWYG application. It's a PNC (Print and Cut application). You need to go to Chapter 9 and go through the calibration for the laser and then you will get much more accurate results. You will also need to create a registration shape in Photoshop for the printing process so that those reg marks can then be used. I recommend placing a thin rectangular border around the perimeter of the project however you can also just use some small straight lines.

@Heartwork - Sandy and Leslie have jumped in with good advice...I know others have had issues on the Mac with printing when they cannot access their colour management system...the referenced post may be helpful.

Sandy mentions that 1. you need to be using Print and Cut, and 2. you need a method of adding print registration marks. The thin border square would work well. Be sure that in MTC you turn on viewing the reg marks on the mat...those will line up just on top of the line of the square, so the offness would be represented in fractions of a millimeter. Be sure to go through the Print & Cut calibration process first to ensure optimum accuracy.

    Thanks so much lovely ladies!!!

Sandy your method worked like a charm. I simply added my own registration dots are the furthest points (on all four sides) and then used those as my registration marks in MTC PNC!!!

I knew it had to be something that I was doing!

    I appreciate all the help!
