Newby trouble with .AI file not cutting completely on KNK (using a Mac)

I purchased a KNK cutter a couple of months ago and I am still having trouble with some things not cutting properly. I am cutting vinyl, and it cuts fine. However, sometimes pieces of the design — maybe a letter or part of a word, or dot on an "i", etc. — won't be cut when the machine finishes. The next time I cut the design a completely different element won't be cut. It's like it's just randomly skipping things. I'd say that at least 50% of the time a design doesn't print properly It's getting a little frustrating and I'm wasting a lot of vinyl. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank! Jay

Try this. Select your design and then click on the wrench icon at the bottom. Select Flatten Paths. See if that makes a difference.

I also recommend starting a support ticket with KNK USA and see if they have any reports of this happening to other customers. Here's the link to use: http://knkusa.com/support-ticket-request/

You are importing the .ai into MTC, right?

I think you should try making a file of similar complexity inside MTC, and seeing if it cuts right. If not, there could be a problem with your KNK, or with the KNK's connection to the computer.

If it does cut correctly, it suggests but does not prove that your problems have something to do with the way the .ai files are imported.

I have downloaded some ratty .ai files, with hidden extra cuts. You can't tell what you are getting if you just get the file online... so to troubleshoot your problem, a known good file would be very useful.
