The ones I look at say to turn layer off before printing. How does one do this???

You are right Onekindacowboy - the writing gets in the way. I was able to get rid of the writing - I downloaded to my desktop and then looked at it with my version of adobe reader(I use a mac) and then on the left side there is a layer icon (looks like sheets of paper) and if you click on the ifo block tab get rid of the layer in question and then can print it out cleanly from adobe reader.

They seem to be vector pdf's since downloaded the golfball one and was able to bring it into mtc without tracing and the info box did not follow.
