Can't seem to cut through poster board on Maxx Air

DhouseDhouse Member Posts: 61
I have been trying to cut through posterboard on my Maxx Air.  I've extended blade, applied all kinds of pressure, (even maximum) various speeds, multi-cuts, and it won't cut through it. The blade is very new. It's like there is no pressure. Any ideas? It's just generic posterboard. Thanks!

That's weird! It should cut easily even if it's a slightly thicker or different type (which I've obvserved when buying poster board is different colors from different places).  The first thing I would do is verify that the blade is okay. To do that, try cutting a paper material that you cut regularly to make sure the same settings are working.   If they are, then you know it's not the blade.  I would then make sure the mat is sticky enough to stabilize the poster board... make sure you brayer the poster board down.  Use a small test shape and start with conservative settings. I use the donut shape because then I can see, when I lift it up if the inner ring cut too deeply.  Anyhow, increase both blade exposure and pressure (by 10 at a time) until it does cut.  I also recommend using 2 passes with poster board.  Once it cuts, see if the inner ring is cut too deep. If it is, only reduce the blade exposure a bit but keep other settings the same.  See if it's too deep again and reduce blade exposure a bit.  Oh... and I would be 25 post it notes to set the blade tip height.

@Dhouse - try replacing the spring in the blade holder and see if that makes a difference.

This is weird. If I use a thinner mat, like the 12x12 that comes with the Zing Air, it works fine, but if I use the thicker 24x24 mat that came with Maxx Air, it won't cut through.  Now, I bought the Maxx Air used and these big mats came with it, could it possibly be the mat?

@Dhouse - maybe or you don't need as high a stack of PostIts as you might be using. Try using a stack of 13 PostIts instead.
