Old Cricut and older MTC software

I absolutely love MTC software but haven't been able to update after the "decision".  I've been using MTC with my Cricut Expression for years but have been so busy for several months and haven't used either MTC software or my Cricut.  Today I created a MTC file and went to cut it but getting error message that Cricut drivers are out of date and must be downloaded.  If I do this will I lose the ability to use my version of MTC software?  Is there anything I can do?

I'm not sure you could try updating the ftdi drivers

    http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm

scroll down choose the 32 or 64bit version as required down the file
then right click on the file and choose Run as Administrator

What version of MTC are you using ? Do you know what version of firmware is on your cricut machine
I'm thinking Julie  @juliefes may have the answers you need

I'm using MTC V2.3.2 and Cricut V2.34.  I also have SCAL2 V2.011 and it allowed me to cut to my Cricut.

Any ideas?  I love the ability to create anything that I want using MTC.

@PamHoepner - did you do what Crazy Mr Zing suggested?

Did you unplug the cutter from the computer, power off the computer, turn on the computer, plug the cutter into a DIFFERENT USB port and power on the cutter?

Did you pick the correct port in the Cricut plugin in MTC?

Some suggestions to get you going.

PamHoepner  ...WoW!! That version was from 2010. So much has improved to the current version, even if it has not been updated for a while.  I would recommend that you download the current version 4.6.2. You can find used cutters for reasonable prices that cut MTC files.  You will be so happy to discover all the things that can be done. Good Luck!

It possible to have 2 Versions on MTC installed on the same computer by installing one version in a differently named folder  . here's a video
One reason for people doing this is so they can design a file in the latest version then open the file is the older version to cut to the Cricut

Just a note to clarify - not all the older versions of MTC can open a MTC file created in a newer and the latest version of MTC.  There were changes made in the software at various times that caused this issue.  I don't remember which ones they were but just wanted it to be clear that depending on the older version, it may not open files from the newer MTC.  You should be able to export out as an SVG file from the newer version and import into the older one if it doesn't let you open a newer MTC file.

    Go Vols!

You can update your machine firmware to 2.43, and it will actually work better than previous versions with MTC. Downloading the latest drivers will not hinder the ability of MTC to cut to your machine. Any version of MTC version 4.1.0 or earlier will work with your machine, as long as all Cricut software is closed.  Start by trying to do a simple free test cut from Cricut Craftroom. Do any suggested firmware updates. This works with the original Cricut Bug, Expression I, Cake and Cake Mini. After doing the necessary updates to get your machine to work with Cricut Craftroom, close the Cricut software. Open your older version of MTC and try a test cut. You may need to update to a more recent version of MTC up to 4.1.0. In a different folder, install the latest version of MTC 4.6.2.  Create your designs in this new version, select all (Ctrl+A) and export as SVG. Import SVG into your older MTC software. Then try cutting. For additional step-by-step instructions, join the free group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/CutterSoftware/ then go to the Files section of the group, and download the file named "Using Older Cricut Machines with Software". This document contains links for what you need, and information on how to get your machine working with MTC again.
