Ok, I make Folding cartons for games that use this template here. There is artwork and designs whithin the lines of coarse and I guess I just don't get how to use SCAL4 to get it to print the template with registration marks. Everytime i go to print it, I only get registration marks and nothing else. I'm using just a solid filled in black PNG image of the template to trace and get the cut shape and then using trace again to bring in the acual JPG file to print. so I end up with a layer that says Cut and one that says print, but no matter what I do it only prints registration marks and nothing else. Is it because I'm using the Demo? I didn't see anywhere where it says you can't print, only that it will cut an X in the job until you buy it. I am going to buy it soon as I can confirm it working. Something this simple shouldn't be so hard lol. I hope someone knows what I'm doing wrong and I would be willing to Skype or chat with someone if they wanted to help me out this evening when I get home from work. It would be allot easier to show and explain my problem that way.

@Sammickk - which cutter do you have?

Typically DEMO versions of products like SCAL and even MTC (Make The Cut!) will disable the print function because people can print to a pdf, which is the same as saving a cut file, and if people could do that and not pay for the product they would.

If you are using a KNK cutter, there are SCAL with a KNK cutter specific User Manuals. I use SCAL, your shape not printing could also be symptomatic of a particular setting in the Cut settings. Take a screen shot of your settings and post it here.

Welcome.  As mommahobbit noted, this is the official Make the Cut software forum.  If you are looking for specific help with Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) they have an official SCAL User Forum that can be found here:http://forum.surecutsalot.com Unfortunately, I am not sure how much it is utilized.  It used to not get a lot of users but it has been a while since I was there checking so it could have changed.  Some of us here use both programs so you might see a little help.  Since you have indicated that you are using it in Demo mode, some of your issues can be related to that as Liz noted.  As Liz also noted, if you are using a KNK cutter with SCAL, there are User Manuals written by SandyMcC that would be of help to you.  Those can be found on her site here: http://www.iloveknk.com/support/ (you have to click on the cutter model to access the UM I believe) - If you have a KNK cutter or another cutter, they may have a forum or Facebook groups that can help your further as well. (I know the KNK cutters do.)

I Have the Zing Orbit 15"
Also I read The Manuals, very well detailed by the way, and it seemed like I was doing everything correctly.

@Sammickk - Thanks for the screen shots but the first image was all I needed to see. Your original image is 9.5 MB. That is HUGE and this program cannot render the image for printing. Neither SCAL nor MTC were originally designed to work with raster images. By the time support for raster images was introduced to these programs, it was too late to change the technology of how the programs work (they are designed primarily for vector images) to accommodate graphics, the way Illustrator, or CorelDraw or Photoshop do. You need to use some other image editing program to get that image size down to 600 KB or so.  MB is like miles, and KB is like inches.

That's EXTREMELY disappointing to hear.. guess i Will be returning the KNK. Unless.... Couldn't I just add those registration marks to my templates in photoshop and print out my templates from there and just have the machine do the cut part? There has to be a way to just use the machine to just cut...
Our template base never changes, it prints in the same spot everytime so it seems like I could just have the machine read the marks and cut couldn't I?

Keep reading the chapter on PNC. I cover this very topic near the end... how to do a PNC from SCAL but by printing from another application. The only thing is that you need to be able to do a Print to PDF from SCAL and that won't be possible using a trial version.  All I can do is assure you that this will work.

Ok I will look into this after I get home from work. I have to say after looking around in SCAL demo and MTC demo, I was using both programs and trying to decide which one to buy... I ALMOST pre-bought MTC because it says on the HOME Page "Works with all KNK Machines". That should really be updated as it doesn't really support the Zing Orbit. Will MTC eventually support the Orbit?

I am kinda Surprised at how limited in functionality the programs are. You wouldn't think that something as simple as lining  up a cut outline with a JPG,PNG,BMP, etc, or any Image file and just printing that image with registration marks would be that hard. Because everything inside that template is irrelevant, the important part is just the basic outline, everything else inside that shape is just filler, so this is why i still don't fully understand why the program can't handle it.....it can't print an image??!? Maybe there is just more to it that I don't understand. But I was able to get the cut outline very easily, and since that basic shape does not change no matter whats inside it, you would think a very simple concept would be easy.
1 layer for cutting, 1 layer for printing whatever image you want! line the two up and BAM print then cut.

They missed a piece of the market here, or maybe there is a different software out there that is more tailored to what I'm doing? I get that allot of people buy this for a much more different use than I was planning to use it for.

I have an Accucraft manual roll through die cutter but each different box shape will cost you 250 dollars every time you want to change a shape! And they wear out. and the margin of error on them is 1/8 inch, (nowhere near as accurate as these machines can be!) so when i found out these machines existed I was super excited only to be let down by the software. :'(

I will Look into what SandyMcC Has told me.

I answered the question that came up about whether or not it was possible to print from another application.  You should be able to print your project from within SCAL, but not while in trial mode.
