long lasting stencils with Silhouette Cameo 3

CWACWA Member Posts: 1

Hi There,

I have just purchased a Silhouette Cameo 3 in order to cut our own stencils for media make up learners.

The stencils will be used with airbrushes, and onto peoples skin.

I've started using A4 OHP transparency film (PPC copier - plain) but find the stencils quite flimsy, and I don't think they'll last very long.

They also lift when we attempt to wrap them around a curved surface, unless we manually add a "bridge" to the design, which can spoil the end look - I'm thinking a more rigid material will hold its shape better?

Does anyone have suggestions on what I could use? OHP paper would be perfect if it was just a little heavier.

Check out the thick film used for binders - it's quite sturdy and can be cut to give a wipe clean surface as well as using masking tape to hold in place.  The office people use it for the outside of reports to give then a posh finish.  I bought a packet of A4 (lettersize) a long time ago and it is still good today.  Also buying specialised film is expensive but you can find this binder film at very reasonable prices if you look around.  Staples UK is a good place to look but I'm sure other countries / suppliers also have this.

Personally, I would use vinyl or just contact paper.  On a person's skin, you may even be able to get away with using shelf lining/contact paper since it has a lightweight stick.
