KNK MAXX AIR used 3 months ago Now communications test says 'system cannot find the file specified'

Hi,

I have done a search but only came up with a windows 7 problem and I have windows 8.1 and have used my machine just great before. Had to take a few months away from it, but all settings are the same.

Devices show cutter and that it is paired.

I am so bummed lol. Have a lot of plans for my Maxx in the next few days. I will call KNK tomorrow if there aren't any ideas here.

Don't want to set it up through printer like was done in the previous problem with win. 7 and just installed MTC.

Anyone have this problem after it had been working perfectly? Thank you...

Sherri L

I don't have a Max Air so I afraid all I can do is ask you question

Did you just install MTC now and have this problem ? or did you have it all working with make the cut previously took a break and now you have this communication issue

Have you downloaded and installed the Plugin for the Maxx Air ?

The other thing Is the Ftdi driver though I not sure if you need them for the maxx Air
Edit from reading this Discussion Ftdi drivers are required

    http://forum.make-the-cut.com/discussion/39402/maxx-air-with-windows-8-1-com-port-issue-cant-cut

I recall in the past the it appear sometime windows appears to block the ftdi install and a manual approach was required by downloading the driver then right clicking and select run as administrator

    Thank you :)

Yes, it was working fine since the beginning until last night. Now, this morning it says 'semaphore timeout period has expired'. So I am truly lost now. lol. I will be calling KNK tech support today.

Last night it showed com3 under test connection, only com3. Now this morning it shows like it used to....com3 serial over....etc.

The computer thinks everything is working properly.

I have another cutter I just installed wirelessly and it shows it is using com4 and is listed in devices at Bluetooth radio...

My KNK has always been listed as just 'cutter' and it still is. Everything looks like it should be working as far as settings and computer, but still, I don't know what to make of the changes in the problem from last night till this morning lol.

Thanks again, I'll post once the problem is fixed :)

That semaphore error means that something is blocking the BT communication. When that happens to me, it's usually ME that's doing the block. lol

But to check your Com Port, go to Windows Device Manager and look under Ports. What does it say there?

Hi Sandy! LOL I'm on hold right now with Brother because I figured out that I think my new device hijacked my original blue tooth for my Maxx. It was set up through wi fi WLAN but...now I am only guessing since I am NOT anywhere near tech savvy! LOL

Sooo good to hear and see you are still around! Not sure if you could remember me; Sherri Landoni...last we spoke (for a couple of hours I think! lol) you helped me calibrate my machine :)

Well, a few months later many sad things happened. I've wanted to email to tell you why I was mia for so long but now is as good a time as any :)

All within a 4 month period we lost....my uncle, Steves' uncle, my Mom, Steves Mom, Steves sister and 2 close friends....started end of July and my sis in law died first of Nov in the same year.....

We were rather rocked to the core as the only one expected was my mom and it took me a couple of years to consider getting back to crafting. *Everything*, I mean most everything I had purchased were the styles of all these women and it was painful to see everything that would never be used for them. Hope that makes sense?

A few other things happened to us but that would be even longer...car accident and I am still not healed but am healed enough to start crafting again! Whew, sorry for the long long post.

So, I remember your dog had just healed? I hope all is still ok but it's been 3 years now, wow.

OK, I am going to talk to Brother hopefully today and I'll post if I am able to get them to change the port com for that machine...if they can't, then I may need to change the port com for my KNK....I don't want to do that! It's been set up for years on that com, uhg.

Thank you, Sandy! Hope to *talk* to you soon.

Hi @Sherricrafts - so sorry to hear of your losses, that is a lot for a family to bear. Take care of yourself, and I hope that getting back into crafting gives you some joy and pleasure. Good to see you posting. Hope you got the cutter going!

Hi Sherri,  So sorry about everything you've been through.

Regarding your Maxx Air, again. that messsage means something like you or possibly a chair, is blocking the signal. It's not your Brother cutter that's causing that error.  Try cutting again.

    Hi Sandy :)

    Thank you...

Turns out it is most likely (almost surely) my Bluetooth adapter. Finally tried a zillion things and it WILL work *if* my laptop is no more than 8" exactly in front of the right side of the Maxx. If I move my laptop a very few degrees in any direction the signal won't work. lol

I have lightly jiggled it and had it work sporadically a few inches farther than that, but only when the adapter and right side of machine are next to each other. That will never do LOL

I have ordered another Bluetooth adapter and if it doesn't work I will keep trying adapters till I find one that works :)

Always the simplest, least checked answer right?

I'll let you know in a few days if this works.

    This does happen sometimes right?

It's been plugged in for years even when the Maxx was packed away and could have been *bumped* if even slightly out of wack? It is a laptop so always on the move :)

Thank you! Surprised to see you....retirement isn't exactly retirement for you after all! LOL

    Hi Liz!

Thank you so much, it was pretty rough...and things still happening, but I am so ready to get back to all my wonderful crafts and machines. Figured out it is likely a  Bluetooth adapter is damaged....easy fix, I'll know in 2 days when the new one gets here LOL

Have a great week and so happy to be here again and *see* you! You have always been a great help!

LOL @ Sandy!  I really hope this is not a sad question....but how is your...I think it is a Le Chon? doing?...I remember there was cancer yes? I don't remember where I put something yesterday, but really important things about people I try to hold it in memory. Hope I'm not mistaken.

I was wondering if the bluetooth adapter you think is faulty is the tiny usb type because i had one the if you pushed in in all the way it would not work properly
so you could try just pulling it back out a little

The cause was the metal on the usb port would touch some of the soldered parts on the adapter when it was inserted fully in

Our La-Chon, Chibi, died in November of 2014. She lived 15 years and was spoiled every single day. We were so blessed to have her in our family.  Thanks for asking!

    @ Crazy mr zing, :)

I did try that lol. I even taped it at an angle and it even worked once from my desk! But lost the connection right away. Thankfully it is the adapter and not my laptop usb port. I started using my mouse from that same port yesterday without a problem. I plugged my Bluetooth adapter into the old mouse port and the computer recognized that *something* was I that port, but it just would not communicate with the MAXX. I am getting a different Bluetooth adapter today and really really hope that helps!

I read all the time though that the lower the comm port number the better. The side closest to my machine is in comm portd 7 and 8 and the other side of my laptop are ports 3 and 4. Guess I'll be experimenting!

    Thanks for the tip!

Thank you so much for all the help and support :)

My usb Bluetooth arrived today and after a lot of tweaking...(just the way things happen around our house! LOL) it seems to be running great! I am thinking positive that it will last a few years at least LOL

Thanks again and tomorrow should be a busy cutting day!

I though it unusual for a laptop not to include its own internal bluetooth adapter so wondering if they are not clashing or there's confusion between the 2

Anyway great that you up and running again
