hey guys, so today i got my black cat cougar and have been trying to do a test cut with the pen attachment, i've tried various software and nothing work so i thought i'd give MTC a try and it shown me the problem but i dont know how to fix it. The programs send the cut info to the cougar but it doesnt do anything, i have done the laser set up in offline mode and all that but even when setting up the software on the COM bridge my cutter didnt move when it was commanded to, i have done factory reset and checked cable and turn it off and on, i got no clue at this point! any help plus tips and trick are very welcome i am a rookie!

i am using macbook pro running the latest, also have access to windows.

thanks!!

Welcome to the Make the Cut software support forum.  First, lets start with a couple cutter specific questions - which BC Cougar is it?  Is it the "Pro" or not?  Did you buy it new or used? If new, I would contact the vendor purchased from for help in getting it up and running.  If used, ask the person you bought it from to "Transfer" the ownership records to you with the original vendor if possible. Also, when you say "also have access to windows" - is that a separate windows based computer or is it windows running on the Mac?

If you have a second, windows based computer you can use, I would suggest starting with that and trying to get it setup because it will be easier to get it set up and cutting with a windows based system.  (See reasons below.)

Second, since you are trying to use it with MTC on a MacBook Pro computer - then you are going to have to jump through some extra hoops and use the KNK Maxx (not Maxx Air) selection of "cut to" because the Mac version does not have a "plugin" for any other cutters but the KNK ones. (Even that said - if you run it with a PC windows - its still best to use the KNK plugin over the BC one because the KNK one offers more options for methods of cutting.)  However, simply using the KNK Maxx as your "cutter" selection will not get it up and running.  There is more that needs to be done.  Unfortunately, I am about to head out the door for most of the day so I will give you some "basics" to start with - which is primarily first - do a search here on the computer for threads related to the BC cougar and Mac perhaps.  You are looking for old threads where we would have discussed setting up a BC Cougar with MTC.  You will get a good number of threads, some may not be applicable but a quick review will let you see if it relates or not.

One key thing to know, the baud rate on the computer in MTC must match that of your BC cougar - it is different on the Cougar from the KNK Maxx.  If the baud rate is not set to match, it will not move the cutter head.  Even then, there is more "detail" of things you have to do to get it to work from the Mac (that I think I have outlined here before which is why I suggest searching the forum since I am headed out the door.)  I can try to help more but it may be tomorrow before I can "search" for what I did to get it to work from the Mac.)
    Go Vols!

I agree with @MeFlick. If you send a shape to cut and nothing happens, including no error messages, it's almost always one of two things: a Baud Rate mismatch or the cutter is Offline instead of Online.

Another issue that has recurred for me is that the program likes to default to "com 1 serial port" in the connection drop down. Most of the time i have to change it to the USB option.
    it's very easy to overlook.

Typically, with the Mac version of MTC, COM 1 is what you set up in the Bridge program. Did you not do that?
