Make the cut is not working. It either stops responding or crashes altogether. Just got my laptop back with clean hard drive.
The file has four layers

    Not sure I can help but if you want to give me your file I can check that if works with my MTC - you can click on my name and pm it to me if you prefer not to make it public.  Also is it crashing when you try to cut or when you try to alter it.  It could be it is not set up right on your new system but at least you would know it is not the file and then the gurus can assist.

    We really need to know a little more information about your setup - what version of MTC are you running?  You say laptop, but is it a PC or a Mac laptop?  What version of OS are you running on the computer?  Since you say you "just got my laptop back with clean hard drive" - did you have a problem with the computer, with a virus, did you have to completely reinstall MTC and other programs?  If so, did you download all the needed drivers?  Is the graphics card drivers up to date from the actual manufacturer of the graphics card.

    What type of file are you working with.  You say it has 4 layers but what is on the different layers? What exactly are you doing or trying to do when it stops responding or crashes? Is it a file you already had worked with previously without issue?  Is it a file you created or one you got from another source?  If from another source, is it a MTC file or an SVG file or another file type?

    The more "detail" and information you provide, the easier it is for someone to try and help you troubleshoot.

    Thank you for your response. I am using mtc v. 4.6.2. I have a pc laptop core i5. I am running Windows 10, vers 1607, 64 bit. I was having trouble getting make the cut and other programs to print. MTC was running extremely slowly. So I took the laptop to Best Buy. They cleaned the viruses and installed Kaspersky Internet Security. I am not savvy on the graphics card. When I got it home, I was able to print the file but when I try to cut, it crashes. I have tried starting over with a new file, but no go.
    The layers of the file are text, two different objects: heart and circle, and the back layer: which is a scalloped circle object. I am printing the whole caboodle, and then hiding the text and heart layers. The plan is to cut the scalloped circle and punch hole circle. I attached the file. it is a mtc file.
    I have tried to cut a different file, and it goes to town. So I believe it has to do with the file. At the same time, I don't think there is anything crazy about this file.
    What happens?: When I start to copy the original set of layers, I start having issues. MTC starts to act like I have swamped it. The copy takes an inordinate amt of time. The program says 'not responding'. For copies and saves, if I am patient, it will finally happen. However, when I ask it to cut, it shuts down completely. It will turn the zing on, but then the two do not talk.
    I did create this file. It has cut sometimes, .... and I don't know what has shut it down.
    I appreciate any help anyone has to offer.

    @DiLite: thank you for offering to try this on your system. Here it is. Of course, I am doing this for a friend. I keep thinking I am going to be finished, but then I hit this roadblock. ugh

    @DiLite and @MeFlick
    It is the file, but what to change? I created this for jelly jar tags for a friend. Why would a tag shape, fonts?, and a couple of other shapes gum up the works?
    What should I change?

    It is very laggy on my computer, which isn't surprsing given how many shapes are present.  My first recommendation is to apply a Join on all of the text so that it reduces the number of individual shapes. You can also then use Texture to convert that text into just a printable object and wouldn't need to then turn off that layer after printing.   I'll make some changes to it and then repost so you can see if your Zing is then "happy" with it.  : )  It won't be until tomorrow, however... off to a wedding!

    That's great  news!  I apologize for not requesting a file sooner... like over on our FB group. I should have done that. Thank you to @Di-lite and @MeFlick for both asking specifically about the file. For some reason, I thought it was an issue with every file, but that IS one of the first things you check.

    @MeFlick and @SandyMcC: no apologies necessary! THANK YOU both for helping solve this. Sandy, I printed your process and stuck it in my manual. Hopefully, I can add this to my repertoire of tools. Happy Sunday!

    You're welcome!  I'm so happy it was just the file itself that was causing the problem.
