Great article! Guilty of most - but #1 - I am not afraid to make mistakes. Made a lot of them and many cost me a lot of money. I did read the KNK manual but I found doing the applications/tips while reading is more beneficial. I've watched many of the back MTC webinars video and I also try the tips as I watch - pausing many times in between. I retain more and learn faster if I do it as I read or watch.

I will say that I wouldn't have bought my Zing and starting using MTC if it wasn't for an out-of-date comparison chart. The Zing was rated pretty high.

I used to always screw up and then read the manual. These cutting machines have cured me of that. lol. I still screw up bit I feel better if I have a reason for it and someone has a solution. There are still several things I wish we could do in MTC but other software is catching up. None of them have topped MTC on tracing. I loved your article Sandy. Made all those mistakes. Hope it helps others.

@Liz_A I only read a manual when all else fails. Obviously with the Zing I am going to have to start with the manual and progress slowly - making mistakes is my one saving grace - I make lots of them.

@Di-lite, Zing and Zing Air owners only have to read the first two chapters to start cutting. Then Chapters 3 - 8 are MTC chapters, covering the software only. Chapter 9 is for those wanting to do PNC. And Chapter 10 is called Applications containing miscellaneous information about cutting various types of materials and using the embosser, engraver, etc. Thus, for a LOT of our of customers, they only have to read two chapters. That doesn't seem so painful, does it? :P

@Di-lite - did you mean the Zing or the new "coming soon" Force that KNK is coming out with? I thought you had joined me and others on the Force bandwagon  - Either way - Sandy has a great manual for the Zing and will no doubt have a great one for the Force as well. Can't wait to get my hands on one of the Force cutters and check out Sandy's manual for it so I can get to using it!

Edited to say that I forgot to say that this is a great article Sandy and a great resource for us to point newbies too. Will have to try and remember that! Thanks for taking the time to write it all up and put it in one place.

@SandyMcC I not complaining about your manual -what I've read of it is excellent and very clear - it's a habit that I got into a long time ago of presuming I knew what I was doing and it isn't until I fall flat on my face that I realise I need to read the manual. Goes back way before computer technology - scanners, photocopiers and faxing machines to name but a few.

@MeFlick - oh yes I'm on the band wagon for the Force - I've ordered it from the first wave and am both excited and dreading the learning curve! The cameo is a cut and go machine and I rarely need to change my settings as I utilise cheap paper to test my cutting files. With the zing it's obvious that I am going to have to learn to change settings a lot as I will want to do so much more with it. Then there's the added feature which I find enthralling - the Rotary Cutter bit. My mind has been in a whirl at the project I can do with it. I look forward to Sandy putting the manual up - that's a lot of work for her - and I for one will appreciate all she has /is doing.

Not only is it a great article I've bookmarked it so that I can refer to it when all else fails, and make a proper request for help. I still like "it wont cut my file" tho'.
