Yesterday I spent all day updating thru Cricut Sync my cricut Gypsy and Expression 2 machines and now I cannot get my Zing to respond to my MTC software. Did the updates cause this problem? Any suggestions? I tried downloading the MTC software again but it did not help.

Nothing you did outside of MTC with that should have had an impact on using MTC to cut to your Zing. Updating your Cricut Gypsy and your Expression 2 machines would definitely have had no direct impact in that MTC does not work with any of them in any way and there would have been no need to reinstall MTC. Plus, I am a little confused - do you have another Cricut cutter that you are using with MTC? If you redownloaded MTC from their home page - that version will NOT work with any Cricut cutter even if you have the old Cricut plugin. PC sued a 2nd time to make sure that was "fixed"/removed.

If you have the zing plugin downloaded, its possible that you have "lost" the correct com port/usb connection. Double check that you have the correct com port selected and try again.

@VRO - if you had the Cricut or other cutters plugged in to the same USB port that your Zing was plugged in to, you may need to do a computer restart with the Zing plugged in and powered on, in order for the USB port to recognize that the Zing is back. Anything you do in regards to the Cricut cutters has nothing to do with the Zing....but if you are plugging in and pulling out different cutters in the same USB port, yes, that can sometimes be an issue. I would make sure to close MTC when switching out the cutters, and ensure that your computer recognizes that a different cutter has been connected before starting MTC again.

Both of your comments were reassuring that I have not messed things up by running Cricut Sync, thank you.I am using different USB ports for each application. I am using MTC to cut with a Zing not a Cricut product. The really strange thing is when I go to the MTC cut window the fan noise does not happen but it is indicating that there is a connection. I am really not computer savvy so could you tell me how I check the "com port" selection?

@VRO - when you choose the Zing plugin from the drop down list under Cut Project With..., click Connected (xxxx) (or Not Connected if that is what the button says) and look at the choices under Connection, and where Connected (xxxx) will display the name of the COM port that it thinks the Zing is at. The COM port name should be something like COMX (USB Serial Port), X is some number. Then you know the Zing is communicating properly.

See pages 20-21 of the MTC User Manual (which as 3 chapters all about the Zing at the beginning) found here:

If you have both cutters hooked up, then the Zing could easily be selecting the wrong COM Port. So, definitely do as Liz suggested.

Thank you Liz and and Sandy!!! I looked as you suggested. Everything looked right. At first nothing happened. Then I decided to click on the one that said where the Zing port was and it came to life. I am up and running again.
