Make the cut crashing

Since I've updated to Windows 8 (and a new computer) I've been having problems with MTC crashing. For example, I was trying to pixel trace this image: http://www.jenndalyn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/flower-painting-bohemian-flower-art-colorful-pattern-mixed-media-artwork.jpg . And every time I paste it in to the pixel trace MTC crashes. I watched the memory usage through the task manager and we only got to 67% so I don't think it is a memory issue but it might be a graphics card issue. I did look at the graphics card gpu load and memory usage and didn't see anything alarming. But my screens have been flickering under heavy use.

Does anyone know what I can do to diagnose this? I did check my device drivers and all seem to be up to date according to Windows. Is there a crash log that can help me diagnose what is going on?

Thanks
Connie

That's a huge image. It crashed when I tried to copy/paste it into the Pixel Trace window, but I was able to save it and then import it into Pixel Trace.

that's what I was going to say - that it is a huge and very detailed image and that I thought it was the copy/paste of it that might be causing the issue. Glad to hear it worked by first saving it and then importing and doing a pixel trace. (I had downloaded it - but hadn't messed with it in MTC yet.)

Wow, so MTC crashes for a big picture? It was 4M. I guess I hadn't realized that it had this limit.

I've also had troubles doing a image capture of more than one shape. Is that something that is limited as well? I've had to image capture 2 shapes at a time and in a different mtc session to get it to work.

Is there a crash log file generated? If so, where do I find it?

Can you explain exactly what you're doing when you say "an image capture of more than one shape?" Also, did you check to see if you could use Import vs Copy/Paste to Pixel Trace the image you found?

It's probably a combination of things - more to do with the computer as well you are putting all that into "memory" when you do a copy and paste to the clipboard and then trying to get MTC to do a trace on it which requires more memory where if you first save the file to your computer, and then do a pixel trace you would be using a lot less memory. Plus the detail in the object in that image is tremendous - especially if you are bringing it in using the "texture" tool.

@SBryanW could probably give you better "limit" if any information and whether or not MTC generates a crash log.

I'm with Sandy in not understanding what you mean by "capturing more than one shape."

No sorry, my mtc was closed so I didn't know the exact term. Texture snapshot, is the command that I can only use on two shapes at a time. Otherwise it will crash.

My plan is to cut out 150 circles with different texture on all of them and then put them in a picture frame. I am having troubles with 150 shapes in one file so how should I split them up. This is what is in my file so far:

    1. One 13x13 big shape that I will print out the wire frame of. The circles will be glued onto this page.
    2. 150 circles ranging from 3/4 inch to 2.5" split into 4 12x12 page layers. These will be cut.
    3. 150 shadow circles of -.25. These will have all different textures. This will be printed on 12x12 pages and the cut will have a white circle all around.

How should I do this without crashing every 10 minutes? How many files should I split it into?
