HELP ! "not connected" message appears

singscrapsingscrap Member Posts: 0
I've had perfect use from my KNK Zing for a year now, but suddenly when I try to set the blade origin for a cut, the "not connected" message appears. Ive uninstalled the software and reinstalled it, I've updated it, I've pressed F3 as instructed in the manual, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help?

This message means the the problem exists between the cutter and the computer. What is the Com port it is trying to connect at? Look at the list of com ports by clicking the not connected button...what do you see there? You want to choose the one that says COMn (USB Serial Port) where n is some number. If you do not see a USB Serial port in the list, then make sure the USB cord is plugged in the back of the Zing, and is plugged into the computer. If both are plugged in, pull out USB cord from the computer and try another USB port. Your computer should make a sound when it recognizes that the Zing is connected. Now try cutting again to the Zing.

Follow all of @Liz_A's suggestions. If you still have problems, then re-install the driver using these steps from the Zing UM:

    • Unplug the Zing from your computer. In MTC, go to Help>Advanced>Download and Install FTDI D2XX Drivers. Once the drivers have installed, reboot your computer. When your computer has finished restarting, reconnect the Zing to your computer. You should get a pop-up that will finish the installation.
    • If this fails, again unplug the Zing from your computer. Download and install the drivers directly from the manufacturer:

At this site, look for the text "Microsoft WHQL certified. It is also available as a setup executable" and you can click on that link. Once you have downloaded and installed the drivers reboot your computer. When your computer has finished restarting, reconnect the Zing to your computer. You should get a pop-up that will finish the installation.
