Do I need the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition Software for Cameo

If I have MTC? I don't want to spend money if I don't have to.

I just sold all my C crap... err stuff, so I'm thinking of buying the Silhouette Cameo, but keep reading about the Software that's extra for it.

Thank you for all your help.

If you ever want to buy their images and export them to mtc as an SVG you will need it. Otherwise you do not.

Just to clarify - only certain versions of their Designer Software will "allow" an export of a file from it to an SVG file (Versions 1.9 and 2.0). 2.0 WAS what was shipping with Cameos but not sure if that has changed yet. However, there are also other "workarounds" to getting one of their files you may have purchased into MTC beyond exporting it out as an SVG if you don't have the Designer Software so, the short answer is no, you don't NEED their Designer edition if you have MTC. I do have it, but prefer MTC.

No you don't 'need' it. But it's nice to have both ;)

I suspected that they would "fix" that and make sure it was no longer shipping out with 2.0! ;) :P Which was why I noted it "was" what was shipping!

I think the non-design version of studio gives you plenty, especially as backup to MTC; plus you can always upgrade to Design later if you come across that one thing you just can't possibly do without it.

You can always cut your Studio designs directly to the Cameo from the free software. You can cut your other designs directly to the Cameo from Make The Cut. Those who will benefit from the Designer Edition of Silhouette Studio v 1.9 or 2.0 are those who want to cut the Studio designs to a different cutter

Or those who want to store all their different designs in one format and not have to store them in a bunch of different proprietary ones.
