I need help - I still can't get MTC to open SVG that I saved from Sil Studio DE

I uninstalled my version and reinstalled with the CD that came with my Cameo - which is 2.0

When I click to see which version I'm running in Sil Studio, it says 2.0.0d

If I open a Studio file and try to "Save As," in the first box I will type box.SVG, but the bottom dropdown still gives me no other option besides .studio, so my file saves as box.SVG.studio

If I go to MTC and try to pull it in, when I go to import the SVG, the ones I saved from Studio do not appear, and at the bottom where it says "file type" in that window, it gives me no other option than SVG - there's not an "All Files" option.

I'm getting really frustrated!!!

If I'm not mistaken you can't save as an SVG in the Silhouette Studio you can just cut from an SVG file that you already have.

Everyone else is able to do so from version 1.9 or 2.0.

Can you select your box and copy into place into MTC. Then export it out as an SVG.

DukeFan - I just tested and I have the same setup as you. I only get the choice for .studio, but when I type "testfile.svg" and hit the enter key, it does not add anything. I am saving my file to the Mydocuments folder, not the default folder for studio files - maybe that is the difference. The files import as svg in MTC with no problems.

I'm saving to a file I've named SVG.

By that I mean file folder in My Documents.

    Try this(exactly)
    1. Open a library file in SilStudio
    2. From the menu choose File, the SaveAs
    3. Navigate to a folder other than the default studio folder (the folder I choose is 1 MTC Project Files on my pc)
    4. In the filename box type "testfile.svg" and click OK

Then in MTC choose import svg and go to that same folder to find the file.

    Susan,

    Is your Sil Version 2.0.0d
Yes I just checked.again- it is the version from the CD that came with the Cameo and then I just "upgraded" to the Designer edition by typing in the license code.

When I save from SS and look in the SVG folder from there, I can see it as cake. svg, but to the right where it says "Type" it says STUDIO.

When I go to import from MTC, I cant see the cake.svg file at all.

frustrated is the nice word for how I'm feeling right now. I usually don't have any trouble with things like this. Grrrrr......

I just checked and mine all say SVG as File Type
  • Posts: 1,473
Well I wonder why mine are still saying "STUDIO"

I'm sure that's the issue, but I just have to know how to fix it.
  • DukeFan I was having the same problem. I was saving them from SDE to SVG and there was nothing there when I went to import them into MTC. I finally looked at the Help/About Silhouette Designer Studio Edition and it said About silhouette Studio. Upgrading to Designer Studio had NOT taken. So I put my registration code in again and got a sign that said upgrading was successful. Now the saving as/import as works. Look and see if your upgrade actually went through. I did mine last night and thought it had but apparently not, but now it is. Hopefully it will stick now.

My version has the "d" after it, so I assume it went through.

If you have more than one version of Silhouette Studio on your computer, that could be the source of the problem. You might try uninstalling Silhouette Studio completely, then reinstall from your Cameo CD. Your Designer Edition and Libraries should not be affected by this. Then try saving a file again with filename.svg

Unfortunately, that's exactly what I did, Julie, and it still didn't work.

It keeps saving as filename.SVG.studio and then won't show up as an SVG when I try to import.

However, I did do the uninstall from the Cameo CD - would that make a difference?

Then I put the CD back in and reinstalled, and it recognized it as designer edition and still had my libraries intact.

  • But the CD that comes with the Cameo is not the Designer Edition. It is just the Studio, you have to go under help and put your key in to make it into Designer Edition don't you? Did some people get the Designer Edition with their cutter?

No, you do have to purchase the Designer Edition and enter the license number after you install the Silhouette Studio from the installation CD.

Have you tried installing 1.9? Maybe there is something in your system that will not let you do this with 2.0. Julie gives the download link for 1.9 in the tutorial.

Ok this might be a silly question but here I go. ( Do I need to down load the 1.9 version first even though I am not going to cut from that program ) I bought the SSDE version to convert my gsd files. I down loaded the newest version SSDE. I open a gsd which open and then follow the instructions from Julie, I also save as with .svg but could not open them in MTC . So i am just wanting to know if I should of down loaded 1.9 too.
I am hoping someone understand what I am saying.

I purchased the upgrade for the designer edition and already entered my code. That's why my version reads 2.0.0d.

I did not try 1.9 - maybe I'll give that a shot when I get home later tonight.

Don 't try this with two versions of the software on your computer. If you have 2.4, then you will not be able to install 1.9. You will need to remove the software from you computer, then install the older version. I was able to get both 1.9 and 2.0 to work on my XP. Then I installed 2.4 as well. However, I am told that 2.4 does not function properly if you also have an older version of the software installed. So, remove all versions of the program from your computer, and install only the one you wish to use on that computer.

This is the version I'm running and it works. I say go down a version. I initially installed using the disk that came with the machine, then upgraded to designer.

DukeFan - Do you have any other version of Studio on your computer or did you have a higher version (beyond 2.0) at any time? That could be the problem.

When I installed from the CD, I installed it to a folder called Silhouette Studio 20 . (I created the folder myself in windows (under the Programs folder - before installing the software). I did this as I had version 1.7 on my computer and did not want to mix the 2. Also it took 3 tries before my unlock code actually worked.

I've attached the screen showing the version

The only version I ever had before was the one that came with my Sil SD - which would be a lower version. I never did any upgrading.

When I installed the 2.0 from the Cameo disk, I actually did an uninstall first and then re-installed it.

My screen version looks exactly like yours, Susan.

SydneysMom - your issue is that you are trying to do it with the SSDE 2.4.0d version. That version will not work. It has to be version 1.9 or 2.0 to get it to SAVE as an svg file that will then be able to be imported into MTC.

I have been trying to download 1.9 from the link for about an hour now, and it keeps getting stuck before it completely saves.
