You would think by NOW~~~

I would know this program better than I do. Here is my question. I am working on the swish. Got it all welded nicely and the font looking great. I then want and have put a name on the swish do a join and it will be a weed area so the name will show through on the shirt. Now here is my newest dilemma . I have a little dragon graphic I want to put on the swish as well on the left side. I place it on top of the swish like the font name and then hit join. The font makes a weed , but the graphic does nothing? What do I need to do to get it to weed as well. Just thought of something. It is a coloring book drawing i took from the net and cleaned up. Might this be the problem? Thanks for any help. Gram

Hi and thanks Berryone. But it will not weed like that will it? See how the name Carter opened up and white for a weed after I hit join. That is how the dragon should be too correct so I can weed it out to show through the shirt??

YES, it is there and ready for a weed. What settings did you use for the Boolean join? This is great!!

There are a couple of problems. First, the image you used to do the original trace must have been a small image to start and you did not get a good trace. A bigger problem is the amount of detail (that I think you are looking for) in a small area (the swish). Attached is a mtc file with the dragon traced from a larger image. I then did a shadow (you loose some details of the dragon, but at that size it doesn't matter), and used the shadow to join. You still have very small detail if you want it on the swish. Another reason it might look like the join is not doing any thing is because the lines are so fine at that size, that when MTC outlines the shape, you can't see that there are "holes" - if you turn off outlining and enlarge it, you will see what I'm talking about.

Bottom line is that you probably want to design it differently - put the dragon outside or part of the swish, or maybe just do a dragon's head in the swish (or make the swish really big).

First I Selected The "Dragon" Broke It, Deleted The " Shadow Layer" Re-joined It Then Moved It To Where I Wanted It Then Did a Boolean Join (Exclude)

Even with Dave's second version, you will have problems weeding and seeing the vinyl that makes up the dragon details (change your mat to contrast, and change the type to fill instead of fill/outline, then unselect the shape). Even when you enlarge it on the screen, the detail is pretty thin.

I put together a couple samples of just dragon heads - you'll see that even with that, the silhouette style (i.e. little detail) looks better in terms of standing out and being easier to weed the vinyl.

Bryan , can you find a dragon that is more kid like. These will be put on shirts for little boys, although I have not talked to their Mom and Grandmother. Maybe they want a more grown up dragon LOL Those look really great. Where did you find the graphics? I like them as they are not gross looking. Thanks for your time spent.

OK - I added a sixth example in the attached - more coloring page-ish.
I did a image search for dragon heads (google) and then selected line drawings. For the 6th one, I did a search on dragon coloring pages.

Thank you both. I do not know where you got them but when I search not always so lucky! Appreciate both of your time.
