Dukefan Julie has a tut on yahoo group I think about this. I searched for the discussion on the forum the topic is on page 4. I am on my tablet right now and could not get it to work to add the link sorry. I hope this helps.
You have to type the svg extension when you are saving because the drop down box in my version doesn't give that option. For example flower.svg. It works. :-)
I just tried this and when I try to open in MTC it shows nothing.
Cheryl, what version and edition of Silhouette Studio software are you using? It won't work with all of them, just a couple I gather from what I have read.

You have to be using SS 1.9 or 2.0 and it has to be the DE (purchased edition, not the freebie). It will not work in any version of the free program or any other versions of the paid program. For those of you who have the Cameo, ver 2.0 is what shipped with my Cameo (on the CD).
I installed and uninstalled ss a few times!!! On my computer before it worked. I was NOT able to keep both version 2.0 and 2.04 on the same computer, so I kept the 2.0 version on the computer that I use the most, and installed the very newest on the old computer.
I don't foresee using ssde mulch, only to save my figures there and import them to mtc. So far it works. Just like you @Dukefan, I only got the designer edition to be able to convert and use in mtc.
See my tutorial here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MTC_Tuts/files/06_File Conversion Techniques/ It is the last one in the folder. You need to join the free group in order to access the many tutorials there. If you have the program that came with the Cameo installed (Silhouette Studio 2.0), and purchase the Designer Edition, then you can save files by typing in the name.svg in the File name box when you save. Those files saved as SVG in SSDE 1.9 or SSDE 2.0 will IMPORT properly in to MTC. See the tutorial for step by step information and a link to a version of Silhouette Studio that works. Installation issues are also covered in the tutorial.
When I'm in studio and I save as for example "heartbox.svg" it saves as heartbox.svg.studio
If I'm in studio and look in my SVG folder, it will say "heartbox.svg" but it doesn't show up when I try to import it into MTC, and next to file type, it still says STUDIO off to the right.
interesting. you said you are running designer edition
It should work.
I guess I'd suggest uninstalling and reinstalling it. Once you log in to your SIL account, click on upgrade to designer edition it will ask you to insert your serial code in to upgrade to designer edition.
you can download them all again. You have 3 times you can do it. But once you save them as .svg it won't matter because you'll be able to save them somewhere else.
The nice thing about SVG files is that you can scale them down, and not lose design details. If you add 100 images to your screen, then save as SVG, then you can import all 100 images into MTC in a single swoop. You could do this by category, then once in MTC, you can send each design to its own page, and have all of the files in that category available in a single file. I have over 360 designs in Silhouette Studio in 40 topical folders that I could convert this way, one topic at a time. Not sure I will bother with my collection of 10,000 GSD files, though. I will just convert those as needed, or when one of those rare times I am bored and have nothing better that I want to do.
I am using XP and it works for me. Anyone using Vista or Windows 7 and having different results?
I use Vista and 2.0 works for me. But I did not install DE to 2.0, I upgraded to DE from 2.2 because I had 1.9 on my computer. Dukefan, you need to try installing 1.9 to see if that version will work for you.
I am also having a problem. I have upgraded to the design edition but when I "save as" and add the .svg - when I go into MTC it will not recognize it. I am getting frustrated like Dukefan
Hi Karen - yes, I ran the CD that came with the Cameo - then I went to the online store and paid the the upgrade to the designer edition - and just entered the "key" number they provided.
I know what you mean Dukefan - It makes me feel a little better knowing that someone else is having the same issues. I just don't know what else to try.
Okay. I purchased SSDE and then imputed the key code. I am running Windows 7 and I can't save my studio file as an svg either. I did save as..... .svg and then used the svg button to open it in MTC and nothing!
I couldn't get mine to save as an SVG yesterday but when I found to save as .SVG then it worked. I downloaded the SS from my CD with my cameo then it came in as the DE as I had already purchased it and downloaded it earlier. I did have to removed my earlier download as it was the updated version. So happy its working now. Question about rhinestone patterns I've purchased from Silhouette. Can I bring them in as an SVG in MTC and will they cut to the right rhinestone size? Thanks everyone for all the help in getting this to work with MTC.
OK--I've read this over and over--both threads. I see that it can be done with the SSDE. I've specifically asked if anyone knows of a way to do this without making an additional purchase. A simple yes with directions, or a simple no would suffice, without directing me back to thread, 'cause I'm not getting it if it can be done. Which is why I asked the question again.

I didn't realize it would be so much work - was hoping I could just change the file extension and save and be done - oh well.

I will try that when I get home tonight.
I just assumed since everyone was getting it to work with 2.0 that I'd be ok with that.

When you look at your version, does it say 2.0.0d or is it just 2.0d?
Wondering if there is a difference, as I believe my Cameo came from the second "batch."

Valerie, your version is too high. It needs to be 2.0.0
And yes, Karen, I just input my license key code - didn't "update."
SSDE is 2.4.0d
It's late now - so I am going to bed. Maybe I will try tomorrow - or just give up lol.
