Resolved : Where are the gallery files stored

Looks like my day to ask for help. I backed up my files that I created in MTC. Of course when I downloaded the new version I lost all my files. So, I went to my backup to get them but can't remember where to put them. Make any sense?
TIA for any help :-(

    Your own personal cutting files should be stored under their own directory, never ever ever save them to the Make-the-cut program file. People who don't know this and do that, will lose ALL their files whenever there is an update...not to mention risk messing up the program.

    Using Windows Vista, I save mine to: Documents, Craft Files, then different file directories under that: Animals, Holidays (with sub-directories), Fonts, People, etc...

    @iggylover Sooooo glad that I saw this. I have been saving all my files in the downloads using Windows XP Pro. So I should make a file under my documents, craft files as an example, and then I can sort them into more folders to organize?

    @Jega Thank you so much for posting. Probably saved a lot of my files from the same situation! Hugs!

    I have a special directory called MTC files, and under that directory, I have a bunch of sub-directories - like personal, mats, cards, occasions etc. I keep all of it on a portable hard drive and on my computer. I sync them up often. I have lost too much data to hard drive crashes etc.
    I also keep at separate directory for MTC install files along with my PCC plug in.

    @Jana,

    It's usually safe if it stores automatically into a temp download file...it just makes it harder to find later. :)

    The one place that no one should save to is into the MTC.exe folder...as some have learned the hard way.

    Not sure I am understanding this. I save mine from in MTC using the save as feature. I then have them in library-MTC files-sub categories such as Christmas, people, summer etc. So since I save them from within MTC are they not safe? Or since I route them to my library are they safe? I do back them up every few days on a flash drive, but just want to keep them safe!

    I saved my shapes that I use often (line fill, shapes I make from basic shapes etc...)to export/sel. to basic shapes. I backed these up some time ago, but I cannot for the life of me remember where I got them. I can find my backup but I cannot remember where to put them. :-(

    Found them ouf! My app data file was hidden. All is well. I restored my basic files. With this new version it will be even easier.
    Thank you all for your help.

    Sorry, I don't want to confuse people. It's definitely OK to use the 'Save' in MTC, but don't use "Save As" and direct it to save into the C:Program Files\Make-the-Cut. You should be just fine with them if you are saving into any folder besides the direct program file.

    I tend to only save certain small shapes or items into my library... like an "i" that I moved a dot on and want to use multiple times. I don't know if saving multiple things into your library might slow down the program or not.

    Am I as clear as mud? :-/
