I'm new to Cricut and am trying to find the answer...can I make Make The Cut work my Expression 2? There's got to be a way...right?

Only if you purchased MTC prior to March(?) 2010. Since then, MTC does not include the drivers(?) needed to work with Cricut machines. I may have the date and terminology wrong, but MTC does not currently support Cricut machines.

Even if you have the drivers, though, you can't use the E2 I don't think. Right???

There is no way in heaven, that any third party software will work with the Exp. 2

No, as Helen said, there is absolutely no way no matter what version of MTC you have that any software will work with the E2 ever... you're stuck with cartridges and the Cricut Craft Room (I don't even know if it works with Gypsies).

    Thanks for clearing that up.
I didn't realize there was a difference in Cricut Expression and Cricut Expression 2.
Is the CE2 new? If so, it may be a good time for me to sell my cartridges.

thanks guys, that's what I was hearing...I was hoping someone had a workaround. I had heard that if I had the correct driver, I might be able to get it to work (I don't have MTC)...but then I heard I couldn't cuz the CE2 is wifi, but that didn't make sense to me, if it still connects to my computer...

So let me ask a question. If I can find an expression either new or used that has the correct firmware, then can I use it with my MTC since I have the plug in? Laurie

I just downloaded the newest version and I have not updated my Cricut at all, but now I can't cut. I have the expression. Why can't I cut now?

what version did you have before updating? did you have the version that had the PCC Plugin ?

IF you had the version that had the PCC Plugin for the Cricuts, then you need to make sure you still have that plugin, and it is located in the right folder. IF you did not have that plug in before you upgraded, you wouldn't have gotten it when you upgraded. With out that plugin, you can not get the Cricut and your computer to communicate with each other, so you won't be able to cut.
When Andy first wrote the program it didn't need the plugins, they were written into the software. He changed that just before the lawsuit was settled, so with out the proper plugin MTC will not work with Cricut machines any longer. So if you had the older version of the program, you didn't need the plugin. If you have not upgraded your MTC prior to March 16th when the plugin was no longer able to be distributed, then you can not get the plugin and you can not use any newer version of MTC.

I had the 3.3.3 ( I believe that what it was) If I simply go back and reset my computer to before I downloaded the latest version, will it work?

Look in your plugins folder to see if you have the PCC plugin, my plugin folder is in program files x86 plugin folder.

I do show that plugin, but when I connect my Cricut to my computer it brings up a notice that I have to update Design studio. If I update Design Studio will my MTC still work?

Design Studio is PC's software, and you don't need that to cut with your Cricut and MTC. Can you close out that warning and still cut??

candicej - did you shut everything completely down and restart everything? If not, I would suggest that you do that and see if it works properly.

    Two things to check:

Update the FTDI2xxx Drivers by going to MTC, click on the 'Help' tab inside the MTC program, choose "Advanced", choose, "Update FTDI2xxx drivers... Restart the program.

Also, getting a "Need to update Firmware" error is common if the wrong COM port is selected... most of the time you DON'T want COM3... you want an option that says 'USB' (or just one that allows it to work, the number and name isn't necessarily important)
