Silhouette holder and blades, which one do you use?

edited June 2011 in Help for Make The Cut
So I read the blog about the blades from Nelda, but still not sure which replacement blade I should buy. I know I can't afford $15.00 per blade, so anyone have the CBO9 holder or the other replacement holder and what do you think?

I believe the one holder from ScrapsInc can use the C****** blades.

Have you used it KarenP? That is the one I have and I honestly cannot recommend it. I purchased it specifically so that I could use the Roland blades and it always requires a double cut. It is a bit of a hassle.

I put a post on the yahoo forum like you suggested Nelda. I hope to hear back from them. WOW those holders are expensive for this machine. I don't have an Archivers anywhere near me. I wonder if you can buy in bulk? If a bunch of us got together and bought and split them?????

You shouldn't be having to replace your blade until at least 6 months, as long as you don't drop it or tap the tip on something to chip it, they last quite a long time!

Holy smokes, 6 months? That wouldn't be bad at all. I thought I would be replacing them in a month.

That's good to hear. I'm on month 3ish with mine and it's doing just fine. :)

I did at first - but if I remember correctly I have always had to double cut (I hope I mentioned that!). Do you have problems like this? Maybe it is something that I am doing wrong. I would really like to make it work since I have plenty of the roland blades for my other cutters. That was the main attraction to me.

It does give clean cuts and accurate with the double-pass, I have to say that. But I guess I am a little impatient and want it to cut in one pass.

For a normal user, hobby user that does a few cuts a day, then 3-6 months should be good for a blade lifetime. For a light hobby user that may do 3-5 cuts a week, then the blade could last you well over a year!

So in the scheme of things, it's not so much money to replace! And you can buy the replacement blades for $12.99 for one, and even cheaper sometimes.

Usually on the machines, if you have to cut twice, and it's not a real heavy paper, then the problem tends to be with how close the blade is sitting to your material. If you can't adjust that with that blade holder (I don't have it so don't know), then I recommend you try using a thinner cutting mat of some sort, so you can gain more height. Normally, if you have a circle you want to cut and the blade gets through half of it, but not the other half, then this is indicative of a height problem (distance from the tip of the blade to the material). With the older machines we used "o-rings" to lift the blade holder up a bit....

This is really good info. I think I might go for a while and see how it lasts. I might order an extra blade though just in case. I wish I had a store I could go to like Archivers.I saw them online for $12.99 so that's not too bad in the scope of how long it should last.

When I contacted KnK about thier mats and blades, he said that the mats were there own but that Silhouette America used to buy blades from them - it looks like they were the supplier to Silhouette at one time.

The special of 2 mats and 2 blades with Krylon seems a good one. For the cost of 2 blades, you get 2 mats and the spray thrown in.

I will have to call them tomorrow, they are in Orlando and I will be there next week so maybe I can pick it up. I don't know what "google checkout" is and don't want to give credit card info to them.

I wish I lived by an Archivers, I would buy blades there, they don't exist in Florda, but the KNK site deal looks good.

Nelda - just for clarification....are you having problems with the Silhouette click blade holder that you purchased from ThatsScrapInc? So you have to make two passes? I will check mine and update what I find here. I don't remember having any issues.

Yes. At first I thought it was the combination of the homemade mats and the holder, but I have switched back to the regular blade holder and everything cuts perfectly on any of the mats with the OEM blade and holder.

The cuts are clean, just that I have to make 2 cuts with it.

When cutting cardstock I use two plastic O rings. Also make sure the tab on the OEM blade holder is facing right (3:00). If you don't have plastic O rings, 3 cardstock O rings will work. I have attached a zipped GSD file for cutting your own O rings.

That was a good deal Nelda. I got 2 blades, 2 mats and the adhesive spray. The shipping was only 5.00 so that was really good. Thanks for the link.

See that above? If I don't take the apostrophe out it doesn't quote you right. Notice there is no apostrophe in your name here?

I have the click holder & the CB09 & like both. I haven't had to do double cuts with the click holder on card stock (GP, Worldwin, heavy textured) but did have to do that with magnet sheets.

Has anyone purchased the Silhouette blades from Ebay? $9.99 seems like such a great deal with only $2.99 shipping, but I am a little hesitant to purchase something from Ebay from China.

If you are concerned, you can always pay the extra $1 an get it from Ohio. http://cgi.ebay.com/Craft-Silhouette-Wishblade-Cutter-Blade-SHIPS-USA-/220816241534?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3369ac737e

But if you are talking about the seller cnlisalui (http://cgi.ebay.com/Craft-Robo-Wishblade-Silhouette-blade-high-quality-/160593112868?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2564186f24#ht_530wt_952) I can personally tell you that I have ordered from him/her and have been happy with my purchase. I think it as about 2- wks for delivery. I am very happy with his/her product (I got the CB09 holder and blade).

I noticed on the description it says "47 degree". Aren't blades 45 or 60 degrees?

Yes, they are usually 30, 45 or 60 degrees. I imagine it is just a typo.

BTW, I have been using the CB09 blade holder with graphtec blades and I am really pleased with the performance. It does take a little while to figure out the exact settings for the different paper types. I am keeping a small notebook with info. I imagine every blade holder is a little different but the concept is the same. I am getting clean cuts with one pass.

The CB09 is from the cnlisalui ebay seller above, and I got the kit with 3 blades. Well worth the investment.

Hi, I just got the CB09 blade holder with graphtec blades from ebay and it does not fit easily in the Cameo...it seems really loose? Will it work for the Silhouette Cameo? I imagine it should since the original holder (with the three different caps) for the Silhouette SD fit in the Cameo...any advise would be greatly appreciated!
  • neldanelda Posts: 11,637Moderator
I don't have the Cameo so I can't say. I do know that both the CB09 and the OEM holder (with the caps) fit in my Silhouette equally well.

You could always wrap a thin piece of tape around it to see if that tightens it up a little bit.
