I have both a Cuttlebug and a Sizzix Big Shot (the same machine as the Sizzix Big Kick, only a different color). I use them both, although they do the same thing. I guess the real answer depends on what you want to use it for, and for what kinds of materials (papers vs. cardstock vs. chipboard vs. felt, etc) ;-)

The Cuttlebug is lighter and has a smaller footprint, so when I'm in a "frenzy" and have a mess of materials spread out on my desk, and only want to emboss with an embossing folder, or cut a small Nestability shape with lightweight chipboard, I reach for that.

However, when I want to cut using an older Sizzix steel rule die, or one of the new Tim Holtz dies, and am using heavier chipboard or felt or fabric, I reach for the Big Shot...it just seems to cut heavier materials better using the steel dies.

(Did I help at all, or only confuse you more? :-)) )
Is this where I'm supposed to say something clever?

The Big shot is also better construction, apparently the Cuttlebug is built to last only a couple of years. Certainly that is my experience

I have the Sizzix Boutique, it is just a embossing machine, but I love it. It also takes Cuttlebug embossing folders.

I have the Sizzix Texture Boutique - as Dana said it only embosses (does not cut) but the price is right - I got mine for $15! At Micheals; And there is a 50% off coupon right now that you could use this week for this (it is not excluded). It uses any of the PC folders, even the 5x7 ones.

It's the blue and black one that looks like a purse.

Thanks for your help everyone. I will only need an embosser not really the die cut part of the machine. I also don't think I would need it for materials heavier thick cardstock. I typically only do papercrafts for scrapbooking. HMMM...to many great machines to choose from. I guess I will sleep on it for a few and then decide after the new year. Thanks again everyone!!

OMG!! Thanks nelda!! That's awesome. I think I will definately try that one out. For that price I'd be crazy not to at least give it a few rounds!! SWEET!!!

Just my opinion but go as big as possible, right this minute you don't use dies, but next week you might want one of the Cuttlebug folders with the die cut in the middle or whatever, I'd have to say go with the biggest opening. That way you only buy once.

I have the Cuttlebug and the Big Shot Pro. The Cuttlebug is handy because it folds up compactly, and is easy to get out. The Big Shot Pro is a huge piece of equipment, but I got it to be able to emboss huge projects. It cuts and embosses dies and embossing folders of all types and sizes!

I would love to have a big machine but honestly I don't have room right now. I got the E and a Pixie for Christmas and it was hard enough finding places for them. I think I will get a smaller machine for now and then maybe something bigger after we move in Sept. My DH is in the usmc so we never know what our living situations are going to be. I NEED MY OWN CRAFT ROOM!!! Maybe when my hubby retires. LOL

I have a Cuttlebug but I mostly only use it for folders and I love it. I don't like the way the die cuts cut into the plastic plates. When I can make cuts with my cougar. The only thing that annoys me sometimes is the small size of the folders but again I can make big folders with the cougar.

OK...thanks everyone. I'm off to compare these machines at the craft stores. I have gift cards for all the craft stores in town so it may take me awhile. ha ha.

Question: What's a good price for a gently used cuttlebug that includes necessary cutting plates and some embossing folders and a few die-cuts?

My thoughts: Joann's has it on sale online for $54 I thought there might be a 10% off entire purchase floating around. The person was offering the used one for a bit less than the sale price, but not much. If there is a 10%, it would put it very close, but not sure what's included with a new one.

OR if possible (not sure if they accept the 50% off) or if the cuttlebug is included in the "slice products". The 50% off would put it just a couple dollars more than the used one (not sure about shipping costs).

I don't think the cuttlebug is included in with the slice products.

There is a 25% off but only Jan 1. It is a Ms coupon but my Js will take it.

JoAnns had a coupon in their latest flyer for 10% off entire purchase (I don't have it right here, but usually it also includes sale items when they do this) for today through Saturday. They don't put their coupons on the web that I have found... but if you get their flyer, you should have it.

Thanks Nelda - I could use the 10% online only as it says it's an online only sale.
Angel, I do get the Joann's coupons online and have the 10% off entire purchase. Funds are very tight and so is space. I was originally going to buy a pasta roller or the "purse looking" one. But then saw the used one on craigslist and the sale... and of course I got slightly excited.

edited: sorry got side-tracked with the kids. We don't have an A/C Moore near us. The Michaels I go to accepts JoAnn coupons and vice versa. The question is, best bang for the buck. I don't have any folders. So, if it's not on sale at the store, I could use the 50% off. If it is on sale I could use the 10% extra. Does the new one come with anything to start? OR I buy a used one and possibly save a little bit/get some folders/dies

I have the Sizzix (the purse-looking one) and really like it. Best off, $29 at Ms and with a 50% off coupon, it makes it very affordable!

I have the cuttlebug, but I don't remember if any folders came with it. So if the price of the used one is about the same as new, and comes with some folders, then that may be the better deal for you.

Something to be aware of, when I went to HL to use one of their 40% off coupons, earlier this year, I wanted to get a cuttlebug folder, and they wouldn't let me, even though the coupon said NO CRICUT. I told them it wasn't Cricut, but they said anything from PC... so you may want to double check with the coupons at Js or M's if you are getting Cuttlebug. Make sure they will take the coupon for the cuttlebug, since their coupons do say no Cricut also.

The Sizzix Texture Boutique does not come with any folders either. Angel does have a point. Both HL and Ms WILL take the coupon for the folders at my stores. I have used them both. Have not tried at Js though.

Good point Angel. Thank you guys for the input. I have asked the seller how many things she has to go with it and if she will ship, I will then see what she's willing to accept. Right now the cuttlebug is 40% off online, just to see I tried the 10% coupon on top of it and it wouldn't take it. Said it was in the exclusion. Then the free shipping was expired. It also wouldn't take the 10% off on the sizzix.

I know angel Micheal's wont honor the coupons either and said the same thing to me when I was going to buy vinyl no where on it does it say cricut but it says pc on it so they said they wont take the coupons..I think they should honestly start putting it on their coupons as PC products.. Technically they should have to honor the coupons because it only says no cricut not PC but of course they dont!
    Lovin' my shiny new Cameo!

I've got a Spellbinders Wizard and absolutely adore it. It's all metal so it is VERY sturdy and I've definitely put it through it's paces and it has never disappointed. And it takes all the other companies' dies and folders.

About coupons and stores. The only store I know that doesn't include the other PC products when they say No Cricut is JoAnn's because theirs usually say No Cricut Machines or Cartridges. Of course, when there's a big sale, the larger Cricut mats seem to vanish from the store!!!

I have not had any problems with HL, I have purchased several folders there with their 40% off coupon. I guess I am lucky.

I think it might depend on the store.. because when I tried to use my coupon the lady said that her manager told them they can't take them. So maybe not all Managers have gotten the word, or they haven't told all their cashiers yet. I was tempted to write to corporate, and tell them if they wanted their coupons to not include ANYTHING from PC, then that is what it should say on the coupon, not just No Cricut as there is a BIG difference between Cricut stuff and other PC stuff. But then, there are a lot of other companies that are coming out with folders that will work in the cuttlebug, and so no need to keep buying PC stuff. (If I would have known the type of business practices that PC had, I would have bought something other than the Cuttlebug but since I already have it, and don't use it a lot anyway, I can't see getting another machine until this one no longer works.. and that may be for a very long time).

I just bought a set of new Cuttlebug folders that are packaged to coordinate with the Cricut cartridges so they have Cricut on them in several spots. I wondered if they would allow the coupon, but they processed it at 50% off, no questions asked.
My new Bigshot is still in the packaging. Hoping to open it today and play a bit.

It's just a sewing machine for paper. I don't sew therefore I didn't own a sewing machine but I love the look of stitching on paper so I asked for one. Found mine at Big Lots for $30. Here's a pic of the one I got.
