I upgraded MTC, but I can't get my Design Studio to upgrade so it doesn't work right. How can I downgrade back to the old version of MTC? I have Christmas ornament orders that I need to do ASAP!

Thank you!!

Prek, Bless your heart - I know how you feel. When I first got my Cricut I couldn't get it to work for anything. Don't know why, but the drivers just wouldn't stay installed (I know I never heard of this before either). Download the drivers again and start from scratch even if you have to call provocraft. I don't know why in the world Provocraft is having so much trouble with some of these machines and their drivers. Looks to me like they would send out the machines with the dang updated drivers in the first place! Like Andy said, once you get your cricut to cut - MTC will work just fine. Please don't give up, if you can get those drivers to install right and your Cricut cutting, everything will work! I do remember downloading the drivers from another place other than going through CDS or the Provocraft site. Maybe someone will post that link for you (I'm sorry I don't have it anymore). Anyone here will be willing to help including me if I can.

There shouldn't be any reason to go back to the old update. If you had 3.0 BETA and it worked the new one will to. You just need to check the box to use serial connection. It will revert you back to the old way.

To update firmware though Andy says all you need to do is

Download the latest version of Cricut Design Studio from here:
    http://content.cricut.com/b/downloads/software/DesignStudio/Setup.exe

Try to cut with Design Studio and follow it's instructions for upgrading your firmware. Once you get Design Studio to cut, Make The Cut will cut.

^^ just keep copying and pasting that anytime someone says it doesn't work. So far it has solved 100% of the issues.

I can't get CDS to even open anymore, that's the problem. And their help says that they don't know why and will provide updates shortly. It just keeps coming up with an error message and won't open at all. I've tried all the different links, uninstalled and reinstalled 3 different times, drivers included. CDS updates to the 3.1 version, but I can't open it and go into it to update to the higher version. So I just need to go back to the old MTC version that worked for me until I can get the new one figured out, AFTER I'm not on a deadline!

Look in the updates category here. I think all the versions are in there.

First try this though. When you go to cut, there is a box that says "Dont use serial printing". Check that and see if it will work. Andy said that is for people who cant update their firmware.

If you simple check the box below when cutting there is no reason to go back. It will work the same as the other versions of MTC. If you could use MTC before you still can , even without updating the firmware , simply by checking the box circled below when cutting.

I tried just unchecking the serial port box, too. It just freezes when I go to cut. I have no idea what it's doing. My next option is to install everything onto another computer and go from there.

I did find the links to the old updates. Thank you!! I'm going to try uninstalling and just going back to the old version. Try updating another day when I'm not on a time line. :)

prek13 - someone from another board/forum emailed me these instructions and they worked for me...
    Un-install MTC
Update CDS (even though it's already up-dated and you know you have the current drivers)
    Cut something/anything with CDS
    Download and install MTC

I have tried updating the new firmware, still with no luck. But at least my cricut still cuts, just not in extreme mode, so I will count my blessings.

I was finally able to uninstall the upgraded version and go back to the old version, reinstalled the drivers and it's working like a charm! :) Thank you everyone for your help! I think I will just hold off on upgrading until I won't need to use MTC for anything for a while. I have come to depend on it these days and rarely use cartridges anymore. I guess that comes with it's benefits and drawbacks! lol

I am so glad that you are able to cut. But please do come back and trying updating again so that you can enjoy all the new features. (and now you know that you can always go back if you have to do so it is not such a panic moment when nothing cuts!)

Just remember that most of the files posted here will be in the new version so you will not be able to open them.

I wonder if you can update your firmware now with the older version on then do the update when you have time

Hmmm....I haven't thought of that. I also wondered about downloading CDS onto another computer and updating the firmware with that computer. It's just when I go to open CDS, it comes up with a Microsoft error before it even opens all the way so I can't update it. And then MTC just freezes when I go to cut. Got a few more ornaments to make and then I'm going to try and play with it some more. But you guys are definitely right, at least I know I can fix it by going back to the old version so I don't have panic anymore!

Uninstall CDS completely and try from a clean install of CDS. You will still need to update firmware but this might just do the trick.

I've tried that, too. Three different times and using links here and off their site. Maybe it's just my computer! lol

make sure that you do a search on your computer to make sure there is not any part of CDS left on your computer and then try and do the CDS install.

I can't remember- did you turn off your security program/firewalls when installing CDS? That seems to be a problem with installing- if you leave them on then it can't download/install them correctly. Also, when I first installed CDS I always had to run it as an Administrator. You might try that, too.
